Knitting socks seem to be the thing at the moment so I thought I would join in the fun.
I recently won the give away on Becks craft blog for the sock knitting kit (Thank you so much Becks!!) and despite my preconceived idea of how crazy knitting on 4 needles was, I have managed to produce a tube!!!!
Yes, I followed the instructions and even managed the 16 or so rounds of K2P2 ribbing and am now about half way down the cuff in good old plain stocking stitch which, bizarrely enough is just knitting every round.
So feeling rather pleased with myself, I just thought I would re read the instructions for the heel.
OMG
I will never manage that!!!!
Is there some kind of helpline for sock knitters to call when dealing with the heel?
Can I call Heel Helpline?
Or maybe someone I know has actually has done it before and will be able to tell me that it isn't that scary, and once you start it all seems to make sense?
No?
Oh, please?!
I think I may be stuck at the heel later on and will need to publish a photo of my half finished sock and leave it as a WIP
Hrmmph That may put my christmas present list a bit behind.....
Oh and does anyone have a pattern for fingerless gloves?
I'm thinking half knitted sock may convert happily to glove.....
May you all have a safe and Happy Christmas

and there's probably something on ravelry...
having never knitted socks myself, I can't help...
I know what you mean about knitting in the round looking crazy mad, but actually now I find it horribly theraputic!
Fingerless gloves... If you sign up to Ravelry and add me as a friend I have a bunch of them saved as favourites... and I have a nice ribbed pattern on the computer if you want me to email it to you :)
Thanks! Think I am actually signed up on Ravelry...if I could only remember my sign on! Will look at the you tube video..they are usually pretty good aren't they. Not sure about ribbed patterns though....I'm a boring old plain knitter me. Lack the powers of concentration for complicated things!!!
If it's any consolation it took me nearly 6 months to knit my first sock...and then an easy 2 weeks to knit the second one!
I only wear them in bed cos they're too precious to wear out!
One day I'll get around to knitting some more...
lol I can totally uderstand the bed sock thing. These ones are cream so I think they are destined fr that too. But sssssh don't tell anyone, I'm on the home straight on this one already!!! Have my eye on some very nice self patterning sock yarn now......
